Sitting on the banks of Scotland’s longest river, the Tay, Perth is the former capital of Scotland, and has seen a fair bit of Scottish history in its time. Here's a small selection of some of the things to see and do when you visit Perth.
The Fergusson Gallery – Three galleries reside within Perth’s old Water Tower, across which a selection of paintings, costumes and photographs are displayed. The collections are from celebrated Scottish Colourist, John Duncan Fergusson, and his wife, Margaret Morris.
Perth Museum and Gallery – One of Scotland’s oldest museums, Perth Museum and Gallery is home to a wide collection of objects and exhibitions, exploring the rich and cultural history of Perth.
Scone Palace – You can’t get more steeped in history than Scone Palace as it was once the place where kings such as Macbeth, Robert the Bruce and Charles II were crowned upon the Stone of Destiny.
Elcho Castle - This 16th century fortified mansion sits upon the banks of the River Tay, and has plenty to explore; from the well preserved kitchens, to the battlements overlooking the surrounding countryside. This well kept castle is a great snapshot into castle-life during the 16th century.
Inveralmond Brewery – If you like your brews, why not take a tour round one of Scotland’s leading breweries? Here you will see Inverlamond’s team brew up a number of drinks, and you can even sample them for yourself.
