Hi, I have 17 days in Scotland as I'm doing a self drive holiday. I would love any driving tips, suggested stop overs etc. I am arriving in Inverness on December 22nd 2020. TIA

Marking this, would love to do this trip with our kids some day!
  • I know I'm a bit late here but if you ever plan to come back later in the year then Gretna Green is a lovely stop-off point! https://bit.ly/3o6BCvx  The Famous Blacksmiths Shop is a visitor attraction just off the M6/M74 and they've got their own hotels too. You might even spot a wedding if you're lucky. :)

I would if have 17 days always reccomend the west coast of scotland ? depending where you rent a vehicle above oban is great all the way up BUT my favourite place is Durness , cape wrath  the very north west tip of scotland and loads of lovely wee villages on the way .
Weirdest place ive been was Plockton where they filmed the tv series hamish mcbeth robert carlyle as the village bobby ? the gulf stream blows over it and it was weird to see palm trees growing all the way up the streets ,
one thing i would like to highlight is MIDGES !!! scotlands version of mosquitos they are hell so whether its netting or sprays or creams take loads they are hell
But for my money Durness is where i want to be
