Outlander Filming Locations Bucket List

VisitScotlandRonanVisitScotlandRonan Member, Administrator, Moderator, VisitScotland Staff

In light of COVID-19, everyone's health and safety is the most important thing. This means despite the love and desire to share our friendly, passionate, and unique country, we must ask everyone at this time not to travel to or around Scotland. Please stay safe everyone.

Despite the latest season of Outlander being set in North Carolina, where lead characters Jamie and Claire are now settled, much of this series was filmed in Scotland, and just like previous episodes, this season does not disappoint in taking its viewers on a magical scenic journey of some of Scotland’s most treasured locations.

Image the thrill you’d experience by visiting them in person. You could make it possible on your next visit to Scotland!

Many iconic landmarks have been used across all five seasons – Kinloch Rannoch, for example which the show’s Exec Producer finds ‘a magical place’.

The Hermitage in Perthshire, beaches across North Berwick and Dunbar and Cambusmore Estate in Callander,  Thomas Coats Memorial Church in Paisley and Glasgow’s Queens Park are some of season five’s hot spots.

If you've visited a filming location from this series or previous ones before then we'd love for you to share your pictures with us so that they can be enjoyed by other fans and added to people's 'must see and do' lists for the future.

You can check out our Outlander Map or our 12 day Outlander tour of Scotland for inspiration.

If you're keen to know the best locations to visit, ask away!

I am late to the Outlander party, but so excited to get to visit some of the locations! Hopefully more of them will start to open up quite soon, are there any we can visit that haven't closed due to cover? :)

Hi @Zoe_Stewart84, You can always visit outdoor film locations like:
Craigh na dun - You can find this here.
Mohawk Village in season 4 was filmed here.
North Carolina Woodland in Season 4 was filmed here.
Parts of Season 5 were filmed at the Hermitage.
All of the above filming locations can be found close to the town of Pitlochry.

Hope that helps you out a little.
Once things start opening up again there are plenty of filming locations around the highlands to discover.
If you have any questions then don't hesitate to ask.

    Best regards from Pitlochry
    Best regards

Ah, there's so many amazing locations to choose from! I'm going to let you know my favourite which is Falkland. The village in Fife doubles as Inverness in the show, but they have used the village for wee bits and pieces here and there too.

I have some other locations shared at :)
