PhD student at University of St. Andrews

Hi there,

I am moving to Scotland next year as I am starting my PhD position at St. Andrews University. Although,  I would like to share a flat with a friend who got a job at Edinburgh. What city would you reccommend us to live in? Somewhere in between. We enjoy going to bars, to the movies theatre and culture, so we'd like to live in a city that could offer a little bit of that.

Hello @imacarolm - congrats on your PhD position!

Scotland only has 7 cities and there are none between Edinburgh and St Andrews. You could look into Dunfermline which still has things to see and do in your spare time, but is smaller sized. All other places between the two locations are more village sized.

If you have a car you might consider living in Edinburgh and commuting to St Andrews (90 min drive) but I'd imagine you'd have to really enjoying driving to want to commute this distance for very long.

I'm not sure if this was helpful, but here's some more information on Dunfermline if you'd like to know more:
