I'm planning to fulfill my lifelong dream of walking the West Highland Way, Scotland's first long distance footpath, with my husband.
I know the basic informations, but I would love to hear

That's brilliant to hear you are away to do the West Highland Way!
I walked it last September with my two friends, and I have to say it was one of the best things I've ever done. It was also a great chance to see some more of rural Scotland, some parts of the hike are difficult but the views are so worth it!
We walked the 96 miles in 6 days from Milngavie to Fort William and we got clear skies the whole way. If you want to see more photos from my trip here's the link to my instagram. https://www.instagram.com/ellisoconnor/

We did this back in 2009, it was our first long distance walk in Scotland and have really fond memories of the trip. This was our itinerary:
Day 1: Milngavie to Balmaha
Day 2: Balmaha to Inverarnan
Day 3: Inverarnan to Bridge of Orchy
Day 4: Bridge of Orchy to Kinlochleven
Day 5: Kinlochleven to Fort William
I would say the hardest (and longest) part was day 2, although the views of Loch Lomond made up for it, and this could easily be split up to make it a 6 or 7 day walk instead.
One recommendation I have is to use a company to transport your bags - we used Travel-Lite and they were brilliant.

We stayed in a mix of accommodation - B&B, wigwam, bunkhouse, cabins. All were absolutely fine - with all that walking we had no problem sleeping anywhere!!
We had a great meal at the Bridge of Orchy hotel and it is also a good stage in the walk - over halfway!
One of the nice things we found was that we got to know groups of people who were following roughly the same itinerary, as we kept seeing the same folk along the way.
However you plan to do the West Highland Way, have an amazing time!

We were very lucky with the weather as you can see which was a toasty 20 degrees. I couldn't stop looking around this place with my friends when we first arrived at the Kings House Hotel, it was so picturesque. We even had some locals to greet us!
Me and my friends chose to walk up 'The Devils Staircase' http://www.glencoescotland.com/see-do/mountain-biking/devils-staircase/ It had a nice gentle slope to start with from the Kings House Hotel but then gradually started to go up and up! I personally found walking up the trail a little challenging but it was certainly rewarding. It was also a lovely spot to sit down and tuck into a wee picnic.
Once we had finished our walk going back down the way we'd come (and grabbing a refreshing drink from Kings House Hotel), we also took the opportunity to visit Glen Etive which was a few minutes down the road. If you're a keen #Skyfall fan, this place is a must! A stunning piece of scenery and a great place to take pickies.
My personal favorite spot in this glen was River Etive. https://www.visitscotland.com/info/towns-villages/glen-etive-p1422341 Again another surprise stunner. There is a small walking track that you can use to get down here. Although make sure you wear sound walking shoes as one of mine came off when stuck in the mud and I had to change them before getting back in my friend's car. Good one!
Overall, I think this is a great section of the West Highland Way to experience and I highly recommend it for all keen hill walkers and photographers. I am yet to experience other parts of the trail but i'm certainly putting them on my trip planning list for the future. #Scotspirit
