Hi folks,
I'm a landscape and wildlife, landscape and time-lapse, video and photo, multi-media producer currently based in my wife's native land of Japan but we're looking at a possible return to the UK next year, and more specifically potentially basing myself in Scotland. The rugged magnetism of the coastlines and picturesque mountains are an incredible attraction. I just wanted to get an idea of what the regulations are, if any, for the use of Drones for stock footage collection etc in National Parks and wild public lands.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Regards,
Mark.

How wonderful that you are considering to relocate to Scotland.
The regulations on drones are only just evolving in the UK following some first-time incidents that have prompted mostly health and safety fears. I expect that laws will change and evolve in the coming months and years. The first fines and prosecutions for drone-related incidents are only just appearing. One thing to note is that if you are using a drone for commercial reasons, you must register with the Civil Aviation Authority.
With regards to privacy, the CCTV code of practice has recently been amended to include use of drones. There is also data protection law to consider if you are including people in commercial images.

I'm sure as drone use increases, so will the clarity on some of the regulations.
Thanks,
Mark.
Thank you for great info. We are planning to visit Scotland in May from USA. I plan to bring my drone to do "open space videography" as we drive to Skye from Edinburgh.
The question is - Any critical or major changes that you are aware of in the regulations since your post ? Do you expect any issues at Customs/immigration? (we are US citizens)
Of course, I am doing as much research as possible to get latest information.
Thank you,
Vipul
