Family research shows my ancestry linked to Maitland Lauderdale Clan, and the Thirlestane Castle. I want to find out as much as I can before planning a trip in the area. I'd definitely like to stay as close if not at the castle itself. I want to visit other areas of Scotland as well. Any suggestions, ideas or information you can pass along would be greatly appreciated. Related to the Maitland Lauderdale Clan? We could be related!

There is an apartment you can stay in at Lauderdale Castle. Please find the link here.
The Highlands are a popular destination! For ideas on what to see and do in the Borders and in Scotland in general, please go to VisitScotland.com. You will also find details of accommodation on the website too. Have a great time!
Also, just to say, depending on your comfort level (and the weather!) the castle is an easy walk from the town of Lauder http://www.lauder.bordernet.co.uk/history/towntrail/22.html
The Castle also has a caravan park.
The Castle hosts a brilliant vintage car event every summer - admission to the show then includes admission to the castle I think. This year's show is on 4 June. http://thirlestanecastle.co.uk/events
There is plenty of accommodation options in Lauder and the surrounding area. For eating out in the area my personal favourites are http://firebrickbrasserie.co.uk/ - a real hidden gem - lunch is great value and for tea, cake and culture http://www.flatcatgallery.co.uk/
I grew up 7 miles from there and used tohelp out at the Castle when they had horse events. (but no relation either)
Hope you enjoy it!
Based in the Scottish Borders, Aberdeenshire has a special place in my heart.
