Family Friendly Pubs

We are taking a family vacation to Scotland from Canada with our nine year old in the late summer.  We are really hoping to hear some live music but understand that children are either not allowed in pubs or only until a certain hour.  Are there any places that we can go to hear live music with our daughter?  We are going to be in Inverness, Fort William and Edinburgh.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Usually children under the age of 16 are not allowed to stay in a public lisenced premises after 9pm.
You would have to find somewhere that has live music through the day.

I am hoping someone can provide me with some ideas where music can be heard other than pubs or during the day.  Are there many family friendly cei·lidhs that a tourist can walk into?

    Hi @Bree !

Welcome to the community!  There are lots of family friendly events and festivals taking place in Scotland throughout the summer months where you would be able to hear live music.  Check out this section of our website for some ideas!

If you are in Fort William between 20 July 2017 and 11 August 2017, the Nevis Range have family ceilidh nights on a Thursday and Friday evening which sound fun!!  Booking is advisable and you can find out more about the event on this section of their website.

The Tartan Hearts Festival near Inverness is a family friendly music festival taking place at the beginning of August and throughout August in Edinburgh you will be able to enjoy the Edinburgh International Festival and The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

If you are in Scotland between 18-20th August 2017, Doune the Rabbit Hole in the Trossachs is a particularly good family friendly music festival.  Also, remember to pop in to our VisitScotland iCentres as local music events are often advertised inside!! :)
