When do the trees leaf out in the spring?

I'd like to know when the trees and shrubs leaf out in the spring. We want to time our trip so that the trees aren't bare and the shrubs are starting to bloom. I'm sure that different parts of the country will vary to a degree. Thanks.

Well I was wondering because I watched an episode of Escape To The Country from Scotland dated May 2013 and all the trees were bare.

I was out and about at the weekend here in Perthshire and the trees are starting to bud. Larch, Horse Chestnut, Hawthorn, Snowberry are all well on. Lots of wild flowers too...Wood anemones, primroses and celandines all putting on a pretty show.
