Gluten and Dairy Free Restaurants

We will be in Scotland in May and would like to know the top places to eat in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oban, Fort William and Inverness for gluten and dairy free intolerances.

Hi Innactive - it's a legal requirement that menus display common dietary irritants. As such it should be possible to identify food that's OK for you :-)
    Bespoke tours.

    Hi @Innactive,

You will definitely find Edinburgh and Glasgow very easy for gluten and dairy free options. Many places will have a separate allergens menu that caters for this, and almost every where will have 2-3 options on the menu (clearly marked) that you can eat. I have found most places very willing to adapt dishes for me also - i.e omitting the cheese in a dish for me.

All of the big chains should have options for you but don't be afraid to try the smaller/independent places too - Scotland is quite onto it with these needs!

Hi @Innactive, there are quite a few suggestions on the Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurants thread which may help give you a few ideas for gluten/dairy free options

Hi there ! I'll be coming in August to visit Scotland with my wife and kids. My wife and daughter are intelorant to dairy products and gluten, so I wondered if I could find food for them (such as soy yogurts, or rice drinks...) in most supermarkets? or maybe there are specialised supermarkets (in France we find most of our food in small supermarkets called Bio-coop, which provide exclusively organic products)
Please let me know if you have any tips about which supermarket companies to look for.
Thanks in advance, and greetings from France !

Hi @apetitdeux , Every supermarket in Scotland has now a row of so-called "Free from" foods including Gluten free, dairy free etc.
    Best regards

Glasgow is fantastic for gluten free and dairy free dining and as others have said free from product are readily available. If you are looking for an organic store whilst you are here Locavore has an amazing range.

I would also definitely visit Wild Flours bakery in Glasgow, huge range of home made products all gluten free and delicious!

What about eating dairy free in Banff?

Hi @Dianna - smaller towns will typically have less options available but the local Tesco will have some dairy free options available for you. If you're looking to eat out you could perhaps try the Eden Watermill or the Seafront Cafe & Takeaway. Hope this helps!
