Mallaig to Fort William suggestion

Looking at taking the Jacobite train from Fort William to Mallaig but had considered an alternate way of travel for the return in order to see some of the sites along the roadway.  Are there bus routes that could accommodate this idea?

That train is more frequently associated with Harry Potter -- the Glennfinnen viaduct is featured in the Potter films as the kids go to and from Hogwarts!  But you'll love the train. Please take a couple of ferry excursions from Maillaig to Skye, Lewis, Mull and Iona if possible.  Bring some cash for drinks and food on the ferry and take loads of pictures!

You could contact a tour company and arrange a private tour around your train journey.
