Places to stay enroute

we are planning a trip to St Andrews, taking the M74/M60. We would like an overnight stop about 2 hours before St Andrews not far off that route. We have no idea of good places to stay ( hotel or B and B), but would prefer to be somewhere more rural rather than a city or town. Any suggestions? Many thanks.

Hi @TSL!  There are lots of great rural B&B's/Guest Houses in Lanarkshire which may be of interest to you, and they are close to the M74 and roughly 2 hours from St. Andrews.   If you are looking for something a little different, why not have a look at the accommodation within the New Lanark World Heritage Site.  It's not too far from the M74 and parts of the old cotton mill have become a hotel and hostel.  The beautiful Falls of Clyde are jsut a short distance away also!  :)
