For anyone visiting Glasgow, especially with everybody watching the value of the pound and looking for value for money these days, there are some fantastic free attractions so you can have a wonderful time in the city without overspending. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is the most visited free attraction in Scotland, and little wonder. It has an amazing range of paintings and artworks by names ranging from Salvador Dali to Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and there are many other fascinating exhibits including a WWII Spitfire, plus an events programme including family activities, musical recitals and much more. Also free and well worth a visit is the Riverside Museum which is great for a family day out. It focuses on transport and has everything from prams and skateboards to vintage cars and locomotives.
These are just two of the free attractions in the city - there's also the People's Palace telling the story of the city and its people, the Gallery of Modern Art known as GoMA which is a must for anyone with an interest in contemporary art, and the Botanic Gardens - lovely to be able to enjoy this touch of the great outdoors right in the heart of Scotland's biggest city.
It would be interesting to hear other recommendations for great value experiences in and around Glasgow.
