The Borders Ridings

Every summer, the Scottish Borders provide the backdrop for some of the most spectacular cultural ceremonies and sights you'll find anywhere in Scotland. The tradition of checking the boundaries goes back centuries to times when the Borders were not such a peaceful place.

There are a number of very useful websites and Facebook pages that give an excellent flavour of the various Common Ridings events that take place in various Borders towns during the summer:

They really are quite a spectacle of colour and the ceremonies can really stir the emotions. Not to be missed if you find yourselves in the region when they are taking place.
