Kilchoan-Tobermory Ferry (Mainland to Isle of Mull)

How full does this ferry get in late August? It's the only one we can't get reservations for and I'm wondering how early we have to get there to make sure we get over to Mull. I'd rather spend more time exploring instead of waiting for the ferry.

It takes quite some effort to get to Kilchoan so you'll be fine. The Oban ferry is by far the most popular route, then there's the Lochaline one which is far easier to reach than Kilchoan.

I travelled across on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago and there was plenty of space for vehicles. It's a beautiful route and convenient if you're staying in Tobermory as you won't need to drive to get there.

I've never had a problem getting on any of the CalMac routes you can't book in advance.

Mull is spectacular, you'll love it. @amp24

Hi @amp24 the Kilchoan ferry can get busy in August but its never too full. Depending on what way you are wanting to get to Mull. The first ferry from Kilchoan to Tobermory is 8.00 and the first ferry from Lochaline is 07.00  If you are going for the day you may want to think about getting a HopScotch ticket. This ticket will let you use the Oban - Craignure ferry and either the Lochaline Ferry or the Kilchoan ferry. The Lochaline and Kilchoan ferries are non bookable but you must book the Craignure Ferry in advance. All 3 crossings are lovely and Mull is such a beautiful island :)
