Van or 2 small cars

We will be traveling from USA as a group of 6. We plan on taking a train to Inverness then proceeding by automobile to Skye and then back to Inverness.  We can secure a van for all of us but we are unsure if a van will be to cumbersome for Scotland's roads. Are we better off with 2 smaller cars?

Hi @DanielB, Through my own experience I would hire a van. The roads are as good as anywhere else. They may not be the widest in places but they are in good condition. Just bear in mind that the roads can be quite busy so it depends on WHEN you are planning on visiting Skye.
If you have any doubts at all then choose 2 smaller cars. Better safe than sorry!

    Hope that helps a little.
    Best regards

    Hello @DanielB

I think this would depend entirely on how comfortable the chosen drivers would be. The roads in the highlands and islands can be narrow and winding, with the possibility of having to reverse backwards into a passing place for an oncoming vehicle to pass.
