When is the best cycling weather?

We're wanting to come for a couple weeks and do a bicycle tour around the country. (something like Edinburgh - Aberdeen - Inverness - Glasgow - Edinburg). We're good for about 1500km but the destinations are still flexible.

My main question now is timing. Between the bugs and the rain what's the best time for cycling? (I'm okay with rain and bugs just looking to minimize).

Thanks!
Tony

Hey @tonyniemann, glad to hear you'd like to tour Scotland by bike!  I would recommend to come in May time, the weather is usually nice and sunny, and not too hot either!

Sounds like a cracking trip @tonyniemann. I agree with @VisitScotlandLiam with May but I also think September can be great too.

Are you planning on camping or using B&B's (or a combination)?

I would plan for every occasion @meyerross. Layers all the way.
This year, June was roasting. However, should normal service resume next year then it can be anyone's guess.

Sorry if that sounds a bit vague but it really can be four seasons in one day. One thing is for sure you will need some midgey spray.
