Edinburgh International Festival
The Edinburgh International Festival (EIF) is here for its 71st year in 2018, and what better way to celebrate by treating yourself to one of the many showings of the performing arts.
There’s 12 venues for the EIF, 10 of which are within walking distance from the city centre, and the other two are in Leith and Morningside. The notable venues include Holyrood Palace and Princes Street Gardens, where you can see Kadamati and the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert respectively.
With all but two of the venues being in the city centre the EIF, like the Fringe, is very accessible via public transport. Even the venues outwith the city centre, are just a short bus journey away. To get to the Leith Theatre at the North of the city, you’d be able to catch a 22 from the city centre out to Leith. The fastest options to get to the Church Hill Theatre in Morningside are to get the 45 or the 23 from near Waverley Station.
Tickets can be purchased for the festival online, over the phone or in person at The Hub, Castlehill. Tickets can also be collected from the venue that you are attending up until 1 hour before the show starts. Ticket prices, like The Fringe, vary from performance to performance and can sell out quickly so it’s best to book in advance as much as possible.
There are some fantastic shows coming to the festival this year, some of them being The Barber of Seville, an opera about deceit, deception, trickery and love. HOME is an optical illusion based play about a house party, not to be missed! Of course the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert is a must see too, for all festival goers as the closing event to the festival on August 27.
An excellent tip for this year’s International Festival is that if you’re under 26 you can get an £8 on-the-day ticket for selected performances on that day, it is, however, only available from the Hub in person. Another top tip we’d give you is to get the walking guide so that you can easily navigate yourself from venue to venue throughout the festival!
