Honeymooning Mid to Late October

My fiancé and I will be honeymooning in Scotland from mid to late October of this year (2 weeks). We are planning on renting a car and driving most places.
What are the "not to be missed" places to visit? We love outdoor activities and historical places, anything with an amazing view. We prefer travelling off the beaten track.
We would love to see the isle of skye.
If it is possible, we would like to see the Giant's causeway in Ireland as well, is there anything that we should take into consideration that could prevent us from doing that (eg. the ferries)?
