Isle of Harris Distillery
Back in March during my stay on the Isle of Harris I visited the distillery, based in Tarbert. Whilst the first batch of whisky will not be ready for a few years yet they are also producing gin, which is being sold and proving very popular.
The tour itself is like no other I have been on before. The tasting is before the tour and at this point the (short) history is explained along with elements that make both the whisky and gin. There are references to the taste of the "Hearach" single malt and because you have already sampled it you know what it being talked about.
The tour guides are so very passionate about their products, island and it's people and it shines through every spoken word. Giving visitors the opportunity to touch, smell and taste ingredients that make both the gin and whisky. It is also made clear to those of us on the tour that if we wished to speak to the men that distilled the malt then by all means we could.
Highly recommended tour if you are visiting the Outer Hebrides/Harris/Lewis

At this point they were only doing two tours a week because of the time of year but were going to be doing more. Either way I would definitely say to book in advance.
