Driving from Glasgow to Dufftown

We will be coming in from Western Canada & looking for a couple interesting places that aren't on the tour books/pages that would be interesting to see or go to. We will be travelling on July 27th. We are going to be in Dufftown for the Highland Games. We will be travelling to Dornoch for an evening as well. Then coming down through Fort William (we are Cameron's), and then off to Edinburgh for the opening night of the Tattoo.

We don't mind travelling out of the way to see or do things. We are going to have a couple days of nothing planned in the middle as well. I am 37, my dad is turning 65 on the 29th of July while we are there. Any tips and or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
