Hello - you should be able to create your own post after you've left 3 comments on other threads. Once you do this it'll be best if you create your own post as more people will be able to see your query and contribute to answers :)

      Hey @DOCRESHMA!

Glad to hear you're visiting us! Inverness to Skye is quite the trip on public transport taking over 3 hours, you can see more here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Inverness/Portree/@57.2226894,-5.8884076,8.44z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x488f715b2d17de2b:0x624309d12e3ec43d!2m2!1d-4.224721!2d57.477773!1m5!1m1!1s0x488c2fe19bd3071d:0x101d0b7a22386915!2m2!1d-6.1960231!2d57.412474!3e3

Whereas Skye to Oban is astronomically longer in trip duration. It says here on Google Maps that it'll take you over 17 hours on public transport:

@Horizons, Do you have any advice?

Hey @DOCRESHMA and @VisitScotlandLiam, I do have advice with 2 options. Some connections take you from Portree to Oban in within 6 hours (example: https://goo.gl/maps/ghYuxSRTtSR2 via Fort William) If you can't make such a connection, stay over in Ballachulish town for a night (maybe even take the bus down to Glencoe village or Kinlochleven during your stay) and then take the Ballachulish - Oban bus.

  • Hi everyone!
Just joined the site and looking forward to getting stuck in with helping others.
We're based in Aberdeen but try to do as much travelling around Scotland as we can to write about on our blog.
Also quite well versed around Lewis and Harris as Lauren is a Stornoway native. :)

  • I am planning a short trip (up to 6 nights) to Scotland late spring/early summer and would like some advice/recommendations on my initial ideas please.. My aim is to get a scenic flavour of the place, with some r and r. Not serious walking, but gentle strolls in beautiful locations, with friendly b and b's or hotels and good pub food is more the plan.
The plan is to fly to Glasgow, stay overnight: so recommendations of what to see and where to stay there would be appreciated..
Then take West Highland Rail line to get a flavour of the scenery from the train journey, to either Oban or Fort William, because I want to go to Mull and Iona . Which place (Oban or Fort William) is best for a first time visitor and with access to Mull? Can we hire a car at either place? Places to stay overnight recommendations gratefully received too.
The idea is to then get a ferry to Mull (with hire car) and spend a day/night somewhere there, then spend the next day on Iona, return to Mull for another night (different place for variety) before returning to the mainland.
I then either fancy getting back on the train to go to Maraig, (viaduct  and scenery are very tempting) and stay a night there, or with hire car travel towards Loch Ness. Then return to Glasgow. Any recommendations or alternate ideas very gratefully received. Thank you.
