    Hey there @Horizons

It is me again. You answered my question about using buses and those days not counting against my travel days. Now I saw a post where you say there are areas where you cannot get with the Brit Rail Scotland pass ie out to the isle of Skye or Eilean Doonan Castle. You also mention the pass may not  be the most economical way. Please where do I start my planning. What apps or websites can help me with my planning.

I have clarified in the post and I will clarify here as well, you can get to both the Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan castle by public transport but you'll have to either pay some money out of pocket (ie not free under the pass conditions) or via an inefficient route (on the optimal route Glasgow - Fort William is free, pay for Fort William to Kyle, Kyle to Skye and everything on the Isle of Skye is free again, route via Mallaig or Edinburgh - Inverness - Kyle takes way longer). My real complaint in that thread is that having spots on the leaflet that cannot be reached by just using the pass alone seems to me like false advertising.

That post has a link to a post that has a spreadsheet of the journeys I took, which ones were covered and where I had to pay out of pocket. The best resource is a combination of the ScotRail website to find fares and your loose itinerary. Rome2Rio is another website I use to make rough costing decisions when travelling to most European countries. I am certain there are certain itineraries where the pass does make financial sense, it just didn't for me.

I am eagerly waiting for news on extension of the 16-25 railcard to age 30, it is going to make so many travellers eligible for cheap rail travel!
